    BDVS Safer Lives Mobile Service

    Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) Safer Lives Mobile Service (SLMS) provides a 24 hour service to assist people in crisis in the Brisbane region. The service is part of an integrated response to domestic and family violence in Brisbane.

    SLMS works in partnership with DV Connect, a 24 hour crisis service supporting women and children to access safety in refuge, Queensland Police Service and Queensland Health. The purpose of SLMS is to actively engage with women and children who have experienced domestic violence in the Brisbane City Council region and assist them to explore their options considering safety and risk.

    BDVS Safer Options and Support

    Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) Safer Options and Support provides specialist support and advocacy services to people experiencing domestic and family violence in the Brisbane region.

    We respond to risk and safety to support individuals to a point where they are safe and stable; whether this be while staying in the relationship, exiting in relationship, or post separation. This is done through a coordinated case response, liaison and advocacy, information, and referral.

    Once an individual is safe and stable, women are referred on to our partner services; WHQ, 4th Space, UCC, Centrecare, IFS etc.

    BDVS Safer and Accountable Justice Systems

    Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) Safer and Accountable Justice Systems ensures a holistic response to domestic and family violence in the community by working towards justice and accountability for men who use violence in their relationships.

    BDVS Safer and Accountable Justice Systems ensures that throughout the connection between primary justice, statutory bodies and people experiencing and/or using domestic and family violence (DFV), there is oversight, tertiary support, practice modelling and strategic alignment provided by specialist DFV practitioners to keep women and children safe and hold men accountable.

    BDVS Safer and Accountable Justice Systems provides:

    • men’s behaviour change programs
    • men’s education programs
    • court support (Holland Park and Richlands Magistrates Courts)
    • men’s court information (Sandgate Magistrates Court only).

    BDVS is also the lead agency for the Brisbane region High Risk Team (HRT). The HRT is a team of multi-agency services including Queensland Corrective Services, Queensland Police Service, Child Safety, Department of Justice and Attorney General (Courts), Department of Housing & Public Works, Youth Justice, Queensland Health and Victims Assist Queensland. The HRT works in a case coordination model sharing information and developing a single multi agency support plan, to respond to the safety needs of individuals and ensure wherever possible accountability for those who are using violence within the relationship.

  • + - BDVS Safer Community Culture

    BDVS Safer Community Culture

    BDVS Safer Community Culture develops innovative programs to support victims with newly emerging aspects of domestic and family violence (DFV).

    The type of programs include:

    • specialist DFV Financial Advocacy (philanthropically funded by CUA)
    • supporting and liaising with other key and fringe stakeholders to improve their culture and responses to DFV
    • assisting with the development of peer networks
    • advocating for improved responses for at-risk and priority populations and being a demonstrated locus of best practice
    • a central point for information news and for key innovative strategies.

    These are all a part of making our community cultural attitudes safer for women and others experiencing power and control based relationship abuse.

    BDVS Safer Families Initiative

    Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) Safer Families Initiative addresses adolescent family violence. BDVS Children and Young Person’s Program provides support to children aged 6–17 years who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.

    BDVS Safer Families Initiative can assist with:

    • coordinated case response for young males and their female protective caregiver
    • evidence based (Break4Change) group or one on one sessions around responding to adolescent to parent violence
    • ongoing risk assessment and safety planning
    • coordinated case response with other support services
    • intake, assessment and referral into the Carinity Talera ReNew program which provides follow on therapeutic support.

    BDVS Children and Young Person’s Program can assist with:

    • educational and peer support to mothers or female protective caregivers
    • One on one or group psycho-education for children and young person’s who have experienced domestic and family violence.

    Queensland and Australia-wide support for DV:

    Queensland Police Service (QPS) can now be contacted online or via SMS if you have been experiencing domestic or family violence.

    Please read the following information carefully:

    1. If you can safely call, do not use the online/SMS options
    2. If the offence is happening now or if you or someone else is in danger, call 000
    3. If you have information about domestic and family violence and if the offence is not happening now and the person is safe, call Policelink on 131 444
    4. If the safest way for you to contact QPS is online or SMS, use the online option or register for SMS messaging
    5. Make sure you provide clear details about what is happening, report if there are weapons involved and any other information that will assist with your safety and the officer's safety
    6. Download the Emergency + (Plus) App and the QPS Policelink App on your phone if safe to do so
    7. By pressing '55' when calling Triple Zero, a person can request emergency help to their address without saying a word. Please read this article for further info. Dialling ‘55’ will not automatically result in an immediate emergency or even a prioritised response. People should only use this function if they have no other option to make contact with police.
