Individual impact

  • + - Safety and protection

Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) prioritises the safety and protection of people experiencing domestic and family violence and is committed to justice and accountability for men who use violence in their relationships.

BDVS provide a Coordinated Case Response (CCR) model within an Integrated Service System (ISS) to provide an Integrated Serviced Response (ISR) to women and their children, utilising a gendered analysis for the purpose of response and safety planning.

BDVS provides an integrated service response with Queensland Police, Queensland Corrective Services, Department of Justice and Attorney General, counselling services, hospitals, health services and other involved stakeholders to enhance protection and safety of women and children at risk of serious harm, injury or murder and ensure accountability for men who use violence in their relationships.

At BDVS, we have four goals:

    • increase the safety of women and children from domestic and family violence (DFV) and improve wellbeing
    • hold perpetrators accountable for their actions
    • commitment to an interagency approach and collective goals
    • increase public awareness about domestic and family violence, including available support services.

Our goals guide our work in safety and protection for people experiencing domestic and family violence and justice and accountability for men who choose to use violence in their relationships.

Our work is underpinned by the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and informed by the Special Taskforce on Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland, led by Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, Not Now, Not Ever report.

  • + - Lived experiences

Some women who have experienced domestic and family violence and are now living free from abuse have shared their stories with us. They do so to show others who may be living with fear and abuse that they are not alone. And that is never their fault.

If you would like to read their stories please visit our 'lived experience' webpage. (Content warning – descriptions of abuse are included in most of the stories.)

Watch our Resound Advocate, Jane talk about her experience and how BDVS supported her and her son to live lives free from abuse.
