The Equality Wheel

The Power and Control Wheel is often shown in contrast with the Equality Wheel as the Equality Wheel represents the changes needed for men who use violence to move from being abusive to non-violent in their relationships.

The Power and Control Wheel was developed from the experience of women in Duluth, USA who had been abused by their male partners. It has been translated into over 40 languages and has resonated with the experience of women who have been in domestic violence relationships world-wide.

Hands are for Holding

‘Hands are for Holding’ is a tool for adults to discuss issues surrounding violence with young children. The children’s book provides an opportunity to talk with children about not hurting or harming brothers, sisters, friends or family pets.

Originally published in 2001 in conjunction with the Domestic Violence Resource Centre (now BDVS), Tess Rowley's book, ‘Hands are for Holding’ has been a popular resource for parents and professionals teaching children about positive communication. The new edition features illustrations by the talented Emily Barrett and can be purchased at Where The Wild Things Are bookstore at 191 Boundary Street, West End Q 4101.

National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010‐2022

The National Plan brings together the efforts of governments across the nation to make a real and sustained reduction in the levels of violence against women.

It is the first plan to look to the long term, building respectful relationships and working to increase gender equality to prevent violence from occurring in the first place. It is the first to focus on holding perpetrators accountable and encourage behaviour change.
